About Us

BinFileOpener is a free online tool for opening, inspecting and converting .bin files and other binary files. It runs right in your web browser, on any device, and it never uploads your files.

Why we built it

The .bin extension is one of the most confusing on the internet. It can mean a game disc image, router firmware, an email attachment that lost its name, a chip dump or a hundred other things. Most people who find a .bin file just want to know one thing: what is this, and how do I open it?

Searching for an answer usually leads to download sites pushing “universal file openers”, many of them bundled with adware. Online converters often want you to upload your file to their server, which is a real problem when the file is a router backup, a contract or a family video.

We wanted a better first step. So we built a tool that reads the file inside your own browser, tells you what it really is and helps you open it, without installing anything and without your file ever leaving your device.

What the tool does

  • Detects the real file type from the file’s signature, not its name.
  • Shows the raw bytes in a hex viewer with search and go to offset.
  • Extracts readable text strings, like model names and version numbers.
  • Previews images, audio, video, PDFs and text.
  • Saves the file with the correct extension, exports hex dumps, strings or Base64, and creates CUE files for disc images.
  • Shows the file size, entropy and SHA-256 checksum.

Everything happens on your device. We do not receive, store or see the files you open.

Our guides

Our blog explains BIN files and binary data in plain English: how to open them on Windows, Mac, Android and iPhone, how to convert them, how to read hex and how to stay safe with unknown files. We test the steps we describe, keep the language simple and correct our articles when something changes or when a reader points out a mistake.

Free to use

BinFileOpener is free, with no sign-up and no file limits beyond what your device can handle. If we ever add optional features or advertising to cover our costs, the core tool will stay free and private.
